Al Lyons is HOK’s information technology and communication (ITC) engineering business discipline director based in the New York office. As part of HOK’s global engineering group, he optimizes these systems to automate business processes, incorporate smart building strategies and improve their overall performance. Over the past three decades, Lyons has been responsible for project management, design, engineering and integration of electronic systems including environmental control, energy management, facilities (building and plant) management, passenger processing, electronic visual information display (EVID), security, voice and data communications, fire alarm, audio evacuation and audiovisual system. He is particularly focused on leveraging new and emerging technologies to improve guest/occupant experience and reduce space and energy requirements. Working with HOK’s multidisciplinary teams, Lyons is able to develop innovative ways of integrating ITC systems into the design. Lyons is a member of the Airports Council International Business Information Technology (BIT) Committee and Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) New York Codes and Regulations Committee and regularly participates in industry conferences. Lyons earned his Bachelor of Science in Materials Science and Engineering from Cornell University and his Master of Business Administration from New York University.
