Piedmont-based producer GAJA is known for striking a fine balance between innovation and tradition, and for consistently producing wines of enviable quality.

The family-owned estate, established in 1859 by Giovanni Gaja, is now run by Gaia Gaja, daughter of the legendary Angelo Gaja, and the fifth generation to take the winery’s helm.

During this masterclass, Gaia will bring to life the estate’s winemaking philosophy: to create authentic, terroir-expressive wines, each imbued with the tradition and culture of its region. The ten wines – including four iconic Barbaresco bottlings and the Cabernet Sauvignon-based Darmagi ­– will showcase the estate’s breadth of terroirs.

Before she moved into the family business, Gaia Gaja, with an economics degree from the University of Pavia under her belt, spent a year in San Francisco working in the wine trade – until her father, winemaking legend Angelo Gaja, convinced her to return to Italy and take up the reins at the family-run estate. Over the last two decades, Gaia Gaja has been involved in all aspects of the family wine business, working alongside siblings Rossana and Giovanni. As well as overseeing the family’s properties in Piedmont, Tuscany and Sicily’s Mount Etna, she travels the globe as the winery’s ambassador.
