That desire to craft a ‘first growth’ from the hills of Oakville in the Napa Valley has been Harlan Estate’s “philosophical heartbeat” ever since, and its Cabernet-dominant Bordeaux blends have achieved cult status among aficionados.

Will Harlan, son of founder Bill Harlan, is Managing Director of Domain H. William Harlan. After graduating from Duke University in 2009, Will began his career at an internet start-up in San Francisco, while simultaneously and discreetly working with his father on an ambitious new wine project: The Mascot. The launch of this wine, made from the younger vines of the Harlan family domain, was announced in 2013, marking Will’s official shift into the wine business. In 2017, Will assumed leadership of the Promontory estate and he officially took over the Harlan reins in January 2021, when his father appointed him MD, giving him oversight of all the family’s winegrowing properties – Harlan Estate, BOND, Promontory, and The Mascot.
