Man and Nature: The Evolution of Champagne Louis Roederer

Saturday June 10 | 10:00 am - 11:15 am

Roederer is one of the most illustrious Champagne houses, with a history reaching back to 1776. More than two centuries of careful stewardship have given the Reims-based producer ample time to adapt its winemaking practices, continually fine-tuning it according to the rhythms of nature. The result is a range of distinctive wines, all with great finesse.

Chef de Cave Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon will lead tasters through four vintages of Cristal, Roederer’s famed prestige cuvée, dating back to 2002, including the rare Cristal Rosé. Also on show will be relative newcomer Collection 243, Roederer’s multi-vintage Champagne par excellence, which was created in response to the region’s changing climate.

This promises to be a fascinating tasting.

Champagne Louis Roederer

Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon grew up in Reims and developed a deep love for the land and its signature wine from a young age. After studying viticulture and oenology at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Agronomie in Montpellier, France, Jean-Baptiste joined Champagne Louis Roederer in August 1989. He spent time at Roederer Estate in northern California’s Anderson Valley, and in Australia where he managed a subsidiary of Maison Louis Roederer. He returned to Reims in 1994 and was appointed Chef de Cave at Louis Roederer in 1999. Since 2006, he has been Executive Vice President, overseeing Roederer’s properties in France, Portugal, and California.
