Bio
Dr. Terry Shanahan started her 34-year science education career teaching high school Chemistry and Physics in Southern California. She served as a Co-Director of the California Science Project at Irvine from 1999 - 2013 and developed a curriculum with a special focus on English Learner strategies since 2000. She has presented at numerous science research and practitioner conferences, both statewide and nationally. With Dr. Lauren M. Shea, she has co-authored articles in research and practitioner journals about the benefits of the use of student talk strategies in science lessons. Her research interests include the effects of student talk strategies on science and math content acquisition and comprehensible science curriculum for English Learners. She currently supervises student teachers for the UC Irvine School of Education and supports their remote teaching. She also is a science consultant for the PBS children’s animated science series, Hero Elementary.
