Parminder (Parry) Bhatia is the Chief AI Offer at GE HealthCare and joined in April 2023 as part of the Science & Technology organization. Parry is responsible for leading the team of data scientists while building machine learning capabilities across the organization. Prior to GE HealthCare, Parry was the head of machine learning for large language models and foundation models at AWS AI Labs and focused on developing low-code and no-code applications. Before that, he was the head of machine learning at AWS Health AI. In his AWS Health AI role, Parry was instrumental in creating Amazon Comprehend Medical (CM), the first healthcare-specific NLP service on the cloud that enables enterprises to utilize state-of-the-art NLP services on clinical documents. Using CM, Fred Hutch Cancer Center was able to evaluate millions of clinical notes to extract and index medical conditions, medications, and choice of cancer therapeutic options, reducing the time to process each document from hours to seconds. He also played a key role in launching Amazon Transcribe Medical and Amazon HealthLake, a HIPAA-eligible service that helps healthcare customers store, transform, query, and analyze vast amounts of health data across different modalities. In addition, during the early stages of COVID-19, he led various cross-Amazon projects to launch Amazon Cord-19, which uses search, question answering, and a COVID-19 knowledge graph to provide transparent and meaningful information from scientific literature.
