Engaging Young Learners With Interactive Slide Decks

Classroom Teacher
Hanover Schools
My name is Michelle Pollock. I am a first grade teacher in Hanover, Massachusetts at the Cedar School. This is my 20th year teaching (all in grade one in Hanover!). Prior to that I worked as a reading tutor. Teaching the primary grades has given me a strong background in reading and math. I also hold an Orton Gillingham certificate, this has given me an in depth understanding of phonics and reading development . Over the years I have found a passion for incorporating technology into my curriculum. I have recently rediscovered how much joy teaching other adults brings me as well as working collaboratively to develop new ways to engage the kids in front of us. The pandemic allowed me to begin to work more deeply with the google suite and incorporate some of the other technology based platforms that can be embedded as lessons with slide decks.
When I am not working on my endeavors in education, I enjoy running and have recently completed 3 half marathons. I also enjoy spending time with my family, which includes two teenage daughters, two rescue dogs, and my husband. We live on the South Shore and are fortunate enough to be between the ocean and some beautiful ponds.
I am looking forward to sharing what I have learned and created with interactive slide decks.

The first day of MassCue my true love gave to me: A Gimkit in a Pear..Deck?

Teacher
Seekonk
An unabashedly nerdy ELA teacher who's found my 'niche' in sixth grade. I'm married with two fur-kids — an old grampa of a papillon named Bailey & a lionhead bunny named Charlie (Queen Bean for 'short') — and three feathered friends: our girls of the ‘Moulin Coop,’ Lulu, Gigi and Cosette!

. My quiet time is spent reading books (mostly YA fantasy - nerdy, remember?), cross-stitching, or watching Premier League Soccer on the couch weekend mornings.

This year marks my 12th year teaching 6th grade ELA in Seekonk! When summer hits, you'll find me with a book, or the dog, or in Provincetown on the beach!

On Demand - Edge Into the Future

Sr. Digital Learning Analyst
Springfield Public Schools
Michael was born in Burlington, VT and lived there most of his life. Having the opportunity for authentic learning experiences throughout his formative education years he wanted to deliver that to his future students. After completing his education through Johnson State College with a degree in Education he began his work in education as a paraprofessional and sports coach. After a few years of teaching, coaching soccer & basketball, he moved to Massachusetts and began a new phase as a head teacher in fifth grade. He spent time at two different schools in Springfield, one with a charter model and one with a more traditional model. During those seven years he learned and honed his technology skills such as utilizing a learning management system, using technology to create authentic learning opportunities and learning how to use technology to create actionable steps for student learning after assessments. Eventually, Michael was promoted within the district to his current position.

Mike is a huge proponent of using technology in education and a firm believer in the flipped classroom and blended learning models of teaching. His time teaching led him to discover his real passion in education, helping teachers understand the benefits of technology in the classroom. During his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, watching movies, working with the science of fermentation, playing bass and creating things with his hands.
